Initial Week at Union Square Spinal Care

Your first visit will take forty minutes to an hour. After entering your basic information, some history, and main concern: I will go over it with you, and discuss how my care might help. Then after taking postural photographs, I will do a chiropractic examination, and go right to work. I love to explain the work as I work, and observe how you are re responding to responding to each procedure. When I think I’m done, I take an after picture, making sure there is a change in the right direction.
Usually I will take a couple of more minutest to start on the education of how best to sleep, stand, and sit. These issues make a huge difference in how well you hold these corrective adjustments.
You are paying for the first visit, but, the rest of the week is free. Usually you will be seen two more times. I’m still checking to see how you are responding to the work, Answering questions, and continuing the education of self care.
At the end of this week, I will make my recommendations for further care, if needed, and a treatment plan you can live with.

Yet, Another Happy Client!

Gwen Gaydos | Union Square Spinal Care

Dr. Lenny is the BEST!!!!!!!!!! I have been to many chiropractors in my life, and Dr. Lenny is incredible.

You see RESULTS from your first appointment. He actually takes a photo -before and after- on your first visit. His technique is the gentlest and yet most effective I have ever experienced. It seems odd, as he manipulates muscles and incorporates muscle testing, etc, but nonetheless, it works.

Also, there are no rules like “you must complete 20 visits until we consider showing you the exercises to do to correct your condition” or any other money making schemes that I have encountered at least in my time… He is honest, and knows his stuff. He has a fantastic, caring bedside manner as well and will take as long as he needs with you.

I travel alot for work and last weekend I was in AWFUL pain in my neck. Dr. Lenny got me right in, and i was so grateful. I figured he would be able to at least lessen the pain. However, the next day, it was totally cured! I couldnt believe it! i could turn my head without pain, nod, and the dull aching pain was gone!!!! nothing short of miraculous. truly.

Thank you Dr. Lenny!!!!

Another Happy Client Story

bio-pic-paraco2“Lenny is the classic example of what a care giver should be, Human First Doctor Second.

Amongst other complications my nine year old daughter was walking around with her head on her right shoulder. Lenny’s first analysis was this will take a lot of work and time to get back to normal.
Realizing the severity of the situation Lenny despite having scheduled time off for his own medical situation called me and offered to treat my child who was in severe pain.
Needless to say Lenny’s first analysis was completely wrong, his deep concern and his care giving ability resulted in a solution with five visits.
Now we have a happy bouncing playful child again, thanks to a deeply committed care giver.”

Baby Got Back Pain?

If you’re like many of us, you’re absorbed all day….by a screen. Reading, typing, scanning and glancing: these are your primary activities. When your mind is drawn into what is on the screen, you tend to ignore your body.  You’re likely to default to a posture dictated by gravity and spinal mechanics. Unfortunately, both of these things can impact your body in ways that lead to one thing… back pain from spinal misalignment.

Everyone responds differently to prolonged sessions at a workstation. Contributing factors include, chair support, and previous spinal injuries.  Today, I will focus on seats.

Take a Seat

Piano players sit upright for hours, but you rarely hear about their bad backs. Why? Look what they’re sitting: a firm, flat bench. We can all take a cue from them.

Most office chairs are destructive to spinal health and posture. The biggest culprits being the “high tech” chairs engineered for comfort. The illusion of comfort from soft bucket-style seats is just that, an illusion. You’re supposed to sit on the bones of your pelvis (ischial tuberosities), not sink into the surrounding soft tissue. This throws your spinal support system out of whack.  Moreover, the slope of the chairs typically rounds your lumbar spine—where it should curve inward. The result? Forced slouching…leading to eventual discomfort.

You can’t always be mindful of your posture and the task at hand so it is best to get the proper support that naturally prompts you to sit correctly. At my office we provide firm foam supports that angle the spine, restoring the natural spinal curves we have when standing up. We also show you how to sit, stand and sleep for optimal spinal health.

Taking the Charge Off

Cold Air is Dry Air that has a Static Charge

A 2007 article in “Atmospheric  Environment”; microbes and allergens that normally float in moist air, will settle and stick to the moisture of our skin and lungs when by contrast the air is dry.  This can in turn increase the risk of infection and asthma.

The article goes on to describe several high tech and expensive ionization systems. In the end, the simple solution is to have a humidifier. There is quite a range of options here. While I love my fancy ultrasonic machine, with a bit of maintenance a simple vaporizer does the trick.

So don’t wait for the first evidence of a cold or flu to start looking for  this, DO IT NOW!

Stomach This!

As a Chiropractor, I see a variety of patients with chronic health issues. While the FDA puts out a number of medications for the purpose of mitigating these ills, many of these FDA approved drugs have had disappointing results, a variety of debilitating side-effects, and we have yet to see the damage they reap in our bodies over the long term.

In the Health Section of The New York Times http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/06/25/combating-acid-reflux-may-bring-host-of-ills/, I was glad to read that health officials are FINALLY recognizing the adverse effects of Acid Reflux medication. The fact is, the stomach needs to produce acid in order to properly digest foods and absorb their nutrients. It turns out that in many cases, acid reflux medications like Prevacid and Nexium often reduce the absorption of vital nutrients like B12, magnesium, and calcium.  Even more problematic, these medicines create dependancies that are difficult to break.

I choose to provide my patients with natural, or what I call “Wholistic” solutions for their digestive health.

The body’s not stupid. Its an incredible machine of nature, and requires natural care. Incompletely digested proteins can get into the blood stream and trigger mild to severe allergies of all kinds. The focus of my care to truly address these digestive/ allergy issues so that you won’t have to resort to being a guinea pig for the FDA.

Do you have questions about your digestive health? Your allergies? Let’s talk about it.
