Seasonal Shift from Ocean to Indoor Pool Swimming

One of my major exercise issues is going from the joy of open water swimming to indoor pools. No waves, or fish to get my attention, it gets a bit monotonous. And, sharing lanes with other people, some with good manners, some not so much, is another issue.

Probably the most annoying aspect of indoor swimming pools is dealing with chlorinated water. So with a bit of digging around, I discovered a sweet, low cost way to remove this strong chemical from the skin. Vitamin C to the rescue!

A West Coast Naturopath, Dr.Deborah McKay wrote up a simple solution I would like to share. Simply add a half teaspoon of crystallized Vitamin C to a pint of water in a spray bottle, apply after swimming, rub it in, and rinse off.

Initial Week at Union Square Spinal Care

Your first visit will take forty minutes to an hour. After entering your basic information, some history, and main concern: I will go over it with you, and discuss how my care might help. Then after taking postural photographs, I will do a chiropractic examination, and go right to work. I love to explain the work as I work, and observe how you are re responding to responding to each procedure. When I think I’m done, I take an after picture, making sure there is a change in the right direction.
Usually I will take a couple of more minutest to start on the education of how best to sleep, stand, and sit. These issues make a huge difference in how well you hold these corrective adjustments.
You are paying for the first visit, but, the rest of the week is free. Usually you will be seen two more times. I’m still checking to see how you are responding to the work, Answering questions, and continuing the education of self care.
At the end of this week, I will make my recommendations for further care, if needed, and a treatment plan you can live with.

Another Happy Patient (suppressed review on Yelp)

In a city populated by charlatans, poseurs and medical flim flam artists of the highest order, Dr. Lenny is THE genuine real deal. He is a remarkable healer and, more important, a human being who cares about you, your recovery and your ongoing well-being. Plus, he just might have the coolest Doctor’s offices in all the land.

I arrived at his doorstep last July (2013) having crab walked up Broadway from my offices on Union Square, barely able to stand erect and grimacing in anguish at the prospect of forever more looking up to my eleven year old son and thirteen year old daughter from a hunched position – my back had given out and I was in excruciating, persistent agony. In what I would truly describe as miraculous, Dr. Lenny cared for me on a daily basis over the next seven days, slowly but with great confidence bringing me back. I have since that time been almost pain free – something I had not experienced in over ten years – and my weekly visits keep me in fantastic shape.

I have never been to a chiropractor who has the skills, expertise, empathy, and uncanny ability to read the patient so accurately like Dr. Lenny. Truly gifted and talented.

Thank you!

Yet, Another Happy Client!

Dr. Lenny is the BEST!!!!!!!!!! I have been to many chiropractors in my life, and Dr. Lenny is incredible.

You see RESULTS from your first appointment. He actually takes a photo -before and after- on your first visit. His technique is the gentlest and yet most effective I have ever experienced. It seems odd, as he manipulates muscles and incorporates muscle testing, etc, but nonetheless, it works.

Also, there are no rules like “you must complete 20 visits until we consider showing you the exercises to do to correct your condition” or any other money making schemes that I have encountered at least in my time… He is honest, and knows his stuff. He has a fantastic, caring bedside manner as well and will take as long as he needs with you.

I travel alot for work and last weekend I was in AWFUL pain in my neck. Dr. Lenny got me right in, and i was so grateful. I figured he would be able to at least lessen the pain. However, the next day, it was totally cured! I couldnt believe it! i could turn my head without pain, nod, and the dull aching pain was gone!!!! nothing short of miraculous. truly.

Thank you Dr. Lenny!!!!

Heal Faster With Exercise

WalkBlock

Why am I plagiarizing this article? Well so I can expand on it! Read on……

“Exercise is essential for good health – we know that and we are aware of its benefits for both our physical and mental wellbeing. But, how can we make small changes to our routines to increase our movement? And do those small changes really make a difference?
Dr Jeremy N Morris died at the age of 99. He was the first person to demonstrate – as long ago as 1953 – that it’s not so much athletic activity that benefits health, but simply the level of physical activity, even when it is just part of everyday life. In his first study, Dr Morris compared the health of London bus conductors who worked on “flat” buses and those who worked on double deckers. The conductors all lived in comparable circumstances, with similar family backgrounds and dietary habits. He found that the conductors on the double decker buses who walked up and down 600 steps per day to check passengers’ tickets, had half as many heart attacks as their colleagues! Later, Dr Morris demonstrated similar results among postal workers, comparing those walking and those at a desk job. Even housework counts as movement! In a study of cleaning women in Boston, researchers found that the simple effort of performing their jobs qualified as exercise and their health significantly improved after a few months. They experienced weight loss, reduction of body fat and blood pressure. So it seems that even a little exercise has its benefits; taking the stairs instead of the escalator, walking to the station or parking a little further from the supermarket can make significant improvements to our health! Isn’t that great news? What other ways can you think of to get your body moving during your regular daily tasks? “

Patients in care often ask what they can do to help me as I correct their spinal distortions. I point out that active patients move through their healing process faster than the sedentary. Of course they may get out of alignment after a work out, but after getting adjusted, they are further along the path of health. OK, so some common sense has to prevail. Distinguishing which activities are creating healthy stress versus those that induce distress is very important. (Did I just write, “healthy stress”?) Oh yes, dead people are stress free. Vibrant living needs stimulation, which is the kind of stress we respond to with “happy hormones”. Bone density and muscle mass are a, use it or lose it proposition. Meningeal distortions are revealed as people move, and then released on subsequent care.

Get Out of Your Winter Rut

As the days grow shorter and colder, friends and patients have told me that they feel less energetic or blasé. I too have gone to bed a bit earlier, and still noticed my energy flagging. We need to acknowledge this energetic shift as nature’s way of preparing for the Winter season. It doesn’t mean we have to pack on pounds for hibernation (we’re not bears!).

My own case involves recovering from a knee tear. I bolt my bicycle to my stationary trainer, take advantage of the amazing body workers in NYC, and rehabilitate. I have reasonable and challenging goals to greet the coming year a little more fit and stable than before. To do this, I make sure I get adjusted regularly: yes, by my own chiropractor.

If your own workout felt out of sorts, you probably had some underlying tension that needs to be resolved. My active patients progress through their healing process faster as a result of uncovering these flaws – just as tempering steel creates a strong, sharp blade. Sedentary people will take longer, but there’s nothing like taking that first step.

Don’t wait to make New Year’s resolutions because you’ve let yourself go. Challenge yourself now!

There Are No Accidents

When I am out in public, especially in a city like New York, I see a broad variety of humanity.

Nothing is an accident, how we live in our bodies is determined, however this large part done unconsciously.

A lifetime of neglect can be seen everyday when we walk down the street. We come across people with horribly distorted postures, how did they get this way? Some were probably traumatized, but most cases developed slowly on a day by day basis.

Our posture gets distorted from two things:

Bad habits, which we can change as we become conscious of them.
Internal spinal tensions, and subsequent compensations.
How do we know which is which?….duh, start paying attention!

Habits that we can’t seem to easily break, usually have an underlying spinal tension as the cause. Unresolved, the constant response to pull on the spinal system is to change posture to alleviate this disturbance.

The purpose of my chiropractic work is to release those tensions, and help you to gracefully undo those compensations. It will take time as each distortion and the compensations needed will release only when the body can accommodate such change.

The work is the work. So far there are no shortcuts to this natural healing process. There is much we can do to help this positive change along. I educate people in the details of how to sit, stand, and even sleep.

There is no hiding from poor spinal management or it’s consequences.

The Real Work Begins After The Crisis

Hello my friends. I’m writing to check in with you on the state of your well being.

As you know, I help remove and resolve spinal distress – allowing you to feel fully present and experience the awe of living.

While most new patients enter my care because the house of their being is on fire, many discontinue care abruptly once their suffering has dipped just below bearable. The real work is the restoration. Same as in a home.

By dropping out before the real restoration work can begin, they fail to experience the full value of my value.

Waiting for crisis isn’t a long term strategy. Just look at the way our country is run.

Please notice the subtle warning signs in your body –

  • A tendency to slump, especially in the shoulders
  • A need to fold your arms in front of you while standing
  • Your head is chronically forward of your shoulders
  • Sitting becomes painful, even within a half an hour

If you have put this off until you have the money, time, need, etc… please call me, and I will work with you  – especially during these slower summer months. Let this be a summer you remember investing in yourself long term than hoping against hope for a change outside of yourself.

Don’t wait for another four alarm fire in your body.
-Dr. Lenny

Zinc and B12 are an important team for your mental and emotional well being.

In “The Townsend Letter of Doctors “, I was reading about all the B12 health benefits: everything from fighting anemia to memory and mood elevation. While I don’t practice psychiatry, the function of the central nervous system is key in my practice.

One study caught my eye. This one, (Mitsuyama et al) brought up the issue of how important zinc is in getting the B12 across the blood-brain barrier and into the central nervous system. No matter how good your B12 status, if Zinc isn’t available the vitamin won’t arrive where it’s needed. Without B12, the brain is vulnerable to a host of mental and functional difficulties.

Various obstacles exist to Zinc’s availability: mercury, cadmium and copper. How do we know if you have adequate Zinc? I have a simple, cheap and direct test at my Union Square Spinal Care office. A weak solution of Zinc is given to patients to swirl around in the mouth. I time how long it takes for any taste to develop. The more deficient a person, the longer it takes to notice.

Zinc supplements are cheap and effective. Who is most likely to develop Zinc deficiency? People exposed to cadmium, lead and copper like mechanics, plumbers, electronics technicians and those in the dental industry. Cigarette or marijuana smokers are exposed to cadmium and should also be checked regularly.

So before resorting to powerful medications consider increasing B12 and evaluating Zinc availability.

Ignore Your Health, It’ll Go Away

I was walking in the West Village last weekend, when the sight of this ice encrusted car caught my attention. I had to take the photograph you see above. As you can see the vehicle in the background is free and clear. The past weeks of snow, freezing rain, partial thaw then re-freezing created this miserable condition. Yet it is the result of doing nothing that made the difference between the two vehicles.
I constantly urge my patients to keep the small problems small. Stay of aware of your body, and take action early. Get the exercise, the massage, of course see me; before you have to take drastic action and see a surgeon! The owner of the car may have to wait for the Spring thaw, the owner of our bodies (that’s us) don’t get that luxury.

Magnesium, an Ally in Need of Defending

There is a call for us to intervene with the FDA and US Attorney General to change standards and regulations on Magnesium in our drinking water. Historically, Magnesium was in salt, today’s table salt is really “industrial waste”. With artificially low standards set by our government we have lost another resource for this vital mineral.

I had done hundreds of hair mineral analysis tests, and never found anyone with sufficient Mg to balance the other minerals. Don’t overlook the fundamentals of good health.

Bio Allergenix Testimonial

“My name is A.C. and I did the Bio Allergenix allergy treatment at Dr. Leonard Rosenblum’s office in May 2009. It has now been a year since I completed the treatment and I am still blissfully allergy free. Usually during this time of year I would be inside, with the windows closed and my air purifier working around the clock just to get some relief from my severe allergies.

But now, thanks to Dr. Lenny and Bio Allergenix, I am able to walk freely outdoors and not be affected by sneezing, itchy eyes, and an itchy throat; this is unheard of for me for at least 20 years. I now notice all the people around me complaining about their allergies, and I am so thankful that I no longer have to be a part of that conversation. I even forgot I ever had any allergies!”

Chiropractic Care and Oxidative Stress

Chiropractic has received much recognition in treating low back pain. Much chiropractic research has been published showing evidence that treatment of low-back pain using chiropractic adjustments is safer, effective, and less expensive than the traditional allopathic medical treatments. Also, chiropractors receive extensive training during their course of study in the area of muskuloskeletal management. It has come to the forefront that there is new evidence showing that chiropractic goes beyond the treatment of low-back pain.

According to Mercola.com, current research is now pointing to the fact that chiropractic adjustments affect the chemistry of biological processess at the cellular level. What this simply translates to is that chiropractic care could positively effect the the body’s chemistry by reducing the levels of oxidative stress and promote DNA repair.

What is oxidative stress? Is cellular stress that leads to oxidate damage that has been implicated to lead to certain diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer’s. Oxidative stress is also recognized as having an impact on the body’s aging process. Oxidative stress within the body happens naturally due to the body’s own metabolic waste, producing free radicals. However, sources outside the body that include exposure to cigarette smoke and other environmental toxins lead to an added amount of free radical formation in the body that when out of balance can lead to disease and inflammatory reactions

A Secretary’s Diary On The Job

Hi. My name is Mela and I have been working in Dr. Lenny’s office on Thursdays for about two months now. I have really enjoyed my job, I get to meet interesting people, schedule appointments, take phone calls and call insurance companies. Most of the time the insurance companies are up to something shady, or something unbeknownst to me that I have to figure out during the course of a 20 to 30 minute conversation that could have taken five to ten if they didn’t all have their heads you know where.

I have gotten to know most of the regular patients amicably, at least I would like to think so, I don’t know if I have met them all, but I used to come in on Tuesdays so that may be so. All of the patients love Dr. Lenny very much and it makes me smile to see them so satisfied. This Doctor’s office is in no way like some of the other ones that I have been to in my short lifetime where after you pay the bill you never feel good about it.

Today was an adventure getting to the office; the building is doing some heavy duty maintenance in the lobby so I had to take the freight elevator up. It took FOREVER because the freight elevator does not like to close its doors in a timely fashion and then it went down to the basement, and up to the lobby, then down to the basement again, then it stopped at the second floor for no apparent reason. Very frustrating. So the elevator was malfunctioning and I got to work about fifteen minutes late. Dr. Lenny didn’t seem too put off by this, in fact he even offered up the freight elevator as an excuse for my tardiness, which I gladly accepted. I think I squashed any residual resentment Dr. Lenny might have for me for showing up late by gifting him with a nice, big, juicy apple that I picked while apple picking a couple of days ago.

The phone has been steadily ringing today which I take as a good sign. See, right after I wrote that sentence the phone rang, and now the door bells are ringing to indicate that a patient is here for his or her appointment. The patient that came in is named Austin and I just asked his permission to put his name in this post. He’s an actor, he comes in regularly and reads very big books and wears spiffy blazers.

There is a lot of political banter that goes on in this office, but I don’t think that’s strange for any setting where people gather, people get fired up about things. Politics is a good thing to get fired up about. I think so anyway, because I think it makes one’s heart rate go up, therefore it could be considered part of one’s daily exercise.

Speaking of exercise, I started working out with a personal trainer friend of mine recently and I just finished my fifth session. I am very happy to also be a patient of Dr. Lenny because having him adjust me allows me to be more aligned in my workouts. That makes me very happy. It really does make a huge difference. I am able to get a better workout and my body has a faster recovery time, as well as the fact that my hips do not make funny noises anymore. Which is a really good thing, considering during my initial consultation, Dr. Lenny told me that my hip was tipped. So I think that the no more funny noises thing is a sign that my hips are aligning. And that puts a huge smile on my face.

H1N1 Vaccine? Think Again!

Courtesy of Bob Chapman of The International Forecaster
Subject: Vital data about US Navy results of swine flu vaccine on ship

Data gleaned indirectly from anonymous testimony of Navy wives of the affected crew via the internet radio show A Marine Disquisition http://www.clipser.com/watch_video/1362067 :

1. Unnamed US Navy vessel put to sea in April with 347 man crew.

2. Entire crew was vaccinated with H1N1 Swine Flu vaccine shortly after they put to sea.

3. Crew sickened so severely that other ships had to respond to render aid. 16 Medical Dr.s put aboard from an unnamed aircraft carrier and other responding vessels. Total of 50 Navy personnel sent aboard to respond to crisis.

4. Two of the crew of 347 died – including the Captain of the ship (a Lieutenant Commander) and a Chief Petty Officer.

5. 50 personnel sent aboard to help are quarantined in Navy hospital in Balboa, Spain after 10 of them caught the flu from the ship’s crew. Two of the 50 quarantined are in serious condition at last report.

6. Of the 347 man crew that were vaccinated, 333 contracted the H1N1 flu FROM THE VACCINE. Two died, as mentioned above, and 331 survived. Only 14 of the 347 vaccinated sailors did not show any ill effects from the vaccine.

7. Navy has threatened all the spouses of the ship’s crew to remain silent – claiming all this information is classified. Some are whistle-blowing and that is where this information is coming from.

8. On the unnamed aircraft carrier that provided assistance, 415 sailors contracted the swine flu and are currently quarantined onboard.
PLEASE pass this email along. The truth is that the swine flu epidemic will be created BY THE VACCINE. If we don’t take it, there will be no epidemic. >From this one test it’s apparent that the vaccine as tested on that ship’s crew in April is 96% effective at infecting the recipient with swine flu. Such an infection rate is impossible to achieve by any natural means. Though it only killed 1% immediately, there is no telling what the long term effects on those injected with the vaccine will be. See the research on the long term effects of the 1976 swine flu vaccine, and the Gulf War anthrax vaccine programs for more information.
Also note that mere contact with those that have been vaccinated creates a 20% chance of you contracting the swine flu even if you have not been vaccinated.

Please pass this data along to anyone you care about!
